HOW TO GET INVOLVED

LAAHU LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE
The LAAHU Legislative Committee meets monthly for a 1 hour session to discuss current legislative topics and to continually develop our local legislative advocacy program. Expanding and enhancing the “Adopt A Legislator” program is the main focus of the committee.
Serving on the committee is your opportunity to make a difference in the ever-challenging political arena on both the state and national level.
To become a member of the committee, contact the current LAAHU Legislative chair.

ADOPT A LEGISLATOR
This program was created by CAHU for the purpose of AHU members adopting a legislator from their district. The goal is to develop a relationship of trust resulting in the legislator calling upon the AHU member as a resource on insurance and healthcare related issues.
To learn more about the program, contact the current Legislative chair.

OPERATION SHOUT
This program is a simple user-friendly method to respond quickly online to current issues by sending correspondence to elected officials regarding our industry’s concerns.

CAPITOL CONFERENCE WASHINGTON D.C.
NAHU hosts an annual 3 day conference in Washington D.C. (during the first quarter) focused on educating members about the current legislative topics relating to health care issues. Presentations by prominent national legislators, regulators and experts in the fiels are coupled with break-out sessions where members from all locals can meet and exchange ideas and experiences.
Appointments are made with our national representatives from the greater Los Angeles area to act as citizen lobbyists. It is an amazing opportunity to have a “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington” experience.
LAAHU provides financial support for a specified number of attendees form the local chapter and a special legislative meeting is held prior to the event to prepare for the current topics to be discussed with legislators.

DAY AT THE CAPITOL
CAHU hosts an annual 2 day conference in Sacramento during the month of May. This is similar to Cap Conference on the state level.

CAHU PAC
The CAHU Political Action Committee provides the vehicle to not only solidify relationships with legislators who support our positions, but also the opportunity to build relationships with legislators who might not realize how effectively we serve as consumer advocates for our clients. PAC is a means to bring our message to those in power who directly affect our industry and our jobs.
A contribution to the PAC is a statement of support for the future of our industry. To complete the PAC form, go to our Member’s Area and click on PAC Forms.
